Letter to the editor: An alternative to Summer Lee’s extremism
This November, voters in the 12th Congressional District can remove another U.S. House member of the extremist “Squad” led by Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez. One member already lost a primary election. Rep. Summer Lee, a proud Squad member, will have glitzy TV ads hiding this fact as she claims she is “fighting for us.” But what is her voting record?
On Dec. 5, after brutal Hamas attacks on Israel, Lee was one of only 14 U.S. representatives who voted against HR 894, which “strongly condemned and denounced the drastic rise of antisemitism in the United States and around the world.”
Then on May 23, she voted against HR 192, which aimed “to prohibit individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia.” Her vote indicates she favors allowing illegal immigrants and even embassy employees from Russia and China to vote in D.C. elections.
It is embarrassing to have such an extreme radical representing hard-working Western Pennsylvanians in the U.S. House. Fortunately, we have a highly educated and experienced candidate running against Lee. James Hayes is a successful businessman who doesn’t have the name recognition or the big money from the Democratic Socialists of America, which supports Lee, but he is a solid choice who will work to promote economic development, reduce violent crime and vote to represent the values of our district, something Lee has never done.
